BIO
My name is Pitchapa Wangprasertkul. I was born in 1999 in Bangkok. I graduated from the Faculty of Communication Art at Chulalongkorn University with an Advertising Major and Psychology minor. I have spent my childhood entering various drawing contests both in Thailand and abroad. As an adult, I spent even more time unlearning those values to develop my own style.
I was first introduced to performance art at 19 years-old when I was selected as one of the facilitators for the Abramović Method exhibition at the 2018 Bangkok Art Biennale International Festival. From this experience, I observed the intense and emotional reactions from the audiences as they actively engaged with the performance.
In 2020, l showcased my performance art piece for the first time. My presentations reflect on the power dynamic and its imbalance, which affects our thoughts and beliefs— those factors that ultimately form our separate characters. With each performance, I simulates a scene where I enables the audiences to empower themselves while depleting my own authority. These deliberate acts ultimately compel the audience to engage and respond to my art.
Beyond gallery exhibitions, I often performs in the area of conflicts or power clashes, primarily in Thailand. My past works include: The Standard (Bangkok Art Biennale, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, 2022) Be a Good Girl (Kinjai Contemporary, 2022), Hello Stranger (Turner Gallery, Tokyo, 2021), Breath, Breathing, Breathe (Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, 2020), King of the Playground (Bridge. Art Space, 2020). Currently, I works and lives with her cat in Bangkok.
