HELLO STRANGER

04.09.21 at Turner Gallery, Tokyo
as part of Tokyo Festival Farm 2021

After contemplating the definition of a home for more than two weeks, I realized my home was separated into two parts. Each part is on the other side of the city. One part I quit calling it home. The other, I dare not call it home yet.

I want to go on an urban pilgrimage in a city where the streets were not made to walk on foot. I believe the journey can connect these two imperfect places together and provide me with some kind of answer.
Important landmarks, street names, and alleys – are all scattered as fragments in my memory.
Before beginning the journey, My friend asked me in wonder – Why can’t you remember the directions back home?
I blame Bangkok.
It’s ironic that I have to ask strangers for directions to get back to a place where I’m most familiar with.
